The Army developed the ground/vehicular laser locator designator (G/VLLD) that uses a high-powered laser designator that is not eye-safe, is bulky and is quite heavy. The $79 million Army contract is for 300 Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder systems, mainly used in conjunction with laserguided, GPS-guided and conventional munitions. It may even signal a break with recent tradition, and drop Cadillac's three-letter model designators for a name from Cadillac's past. |
